Bud Black - LHP (2-5 KOD, 10-7 RL) vs John Tudor - LHP (4-1 KOD, 13-12 RL)
The
Red Sox jumped to a 4-0 lead after 2 innings chasing KC starter Bud
Black John Tudor was rolling along thru 5 innings and then the wheels
fell off for the hometown Sox. The Royals put 4 up in the 6th to tie
the game turned the ball over to closer Dan Quisenberry. Quiz would
throw 55 pitches with the game hanging in the balance the whole time and
the Royals all time great was up to the task. He threw 4 innings of 1
hit ball buying enough time for the Royals to scratch a run across
against Bob Stanley in the top of the 9th. UL Washington reached on a
huge error by SS Glenn Hoffman with 1 out in the visitors 9th.
Washington then stole 2nd. Willie Wilson struck out for the 2nd out of
the inning. But Pat Sheridan was able to drill a single to center field
that brought Washington home with the go ahead run. The Sox had a shot
in the bottom of the 9th but it was not meant to be and their 2nd half
KOD surge came to an end in the AL wild card.
Good luck to the rest of the playoffs team. And congrats to Dan Holm for a great game.
